Canada Immigration is primarily a point-based process, and the Express Entry Program is the preferred route for many applicants. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) assigns points based on the information provided in your application.
What is Canada’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)?
Candidates are ranked for immigration to Canada using the CRS. Points are assigned for:
- Age
- Education
- Language fluency
- Canadian work experience
CRS Factors — Without Spouse/Partner
- Age — Max 110 points. Highest points between 20–29; 0 points if under 17 or over 45.
- Education — Max 150 points. Highest for doctoral-level degrees.
- Language Fluency
- Official language: reading, writing, speaking, listening (max 34 points per ability; CLB 10+ highest).
- Second official language: same four abilities (max 24 points per ability).
- Canadian Work Experience — Max 80 points (maximum for 5+ years).
CRS Factors — With Spouse/Partner
- Age — Max 110 points.
- Education — Points range 0–10; Master’s/Doctorate receive 10.
- Language Fluency (Partner) — Each official + second language ability can give up to 5 points (total 20).
- Canadian Work Experience (Partner) — Max 10 points for 5+ years.
