Malta’s previous citizenship by investment program came to a grand end in the year 2020. The program reached its tilt when it completed accepting 1800 applications. The Malta Immigration Investment program fetched the Malta Government Euro 1.6 billion over a period of 6 years.

The new program is a lot different from the previous programs. This program was started in the December 2020. It runs in 2 stages. In the first stage, you will be allotted residency of the country and after you have complied with the rules you will be granted citizenship. You could choose 1 year or 3 years of residency in the country before citizenship.

Legal Basis

Maltese Citizenship by Investment may be granted under an amendment passed in November 2013 to the Maltese Citizenship Act, Chapter 188 of the Laws of Malta. These amendments provided the framework for the enactment of LN 47 of 2014. The “Granting of citizenship for Exceptional Services Regulations” provide affluent persons of impeccable standing and repute to be naturalised and to receive Maltese citizenship on the basis of a contribution to and investment in Malta.

  • Contribution value
    • If you intend to obtain citizenship after a year of residency, you will need to make a contribution of Euro 700,000.
    • If you intend to obtain citizenship after 3 years of residency, you will need to make a contribution of Euro 600,000
    • You will have to make a charity contribution of Euro 10,000
    • You will be making a real estate purchase of Euro 700,000 or take a real estate property for Euro 16,000 on annual basis. This should be maintained for 5 years period.
  • You need to have a crime free background and have medical certificates proving your sound mental and physical health
